World domination

HTC has moved into the Chinese market with plans to launch its first HTC-branded devices.

The Taiwanese company will roll out four new 3G models, in a bid to carve out a share of the world's largest mobile phone market.

It has also announced a partnership with China Mobile to bring future HTC phones to market, as well as joining with China's largest electronics distributer, GOME Electrical Appliances Holding to handle the distribution.

In fact, the company has been partnering mobile operators in China since 2003, but now seeks to bring its brand to the country via its own branded handsets.

The company said its entry into China represents its continued growth and visibility of its global brand.  HTC revenues hit record highs this month on the back of its Android appeal.

HTC's Chief Marketing Officer John Wang told the BBC it remains committed to using both Android and Window's operating systems.

Wang said: "Windows Phones is going to be a great experience. Windows Phones in the past has delivered so much to so many consumers. Today one in two Windows-based mobiles is an HTC phone and one in two Android phones is an HTC. Our commitment to Windows and Android is unwavering."

He dismissed internet rumours that the new Windows operating system is disappointing, with some commentators lamenting its lack of multitasking and ability to copy and paste among other features.
