We hope that’s a mistake!
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction but the fleeting appearance of the near-mythical unicorn white iPhone 4 for almost a grand has got everyone scratching their heads.
Is it possible Apple plans to sell a different coloured version of its current iPhone offering for such a huge sum or was it simply a mistake?
The white iPhone apparently popped up on Expansys' website but was speedily removed...not before a screenshot was grabbed by The Register.
Expansys priced the pale handset at £919.99 *gasp* and one of the draw-backs listed for the handset was that it was ‘expensive'. Shoppers might be pleased to know that a discount was apparently available if they snapped up 5 in a go. Expansys has now changed the page for the handset to ‘Not Announced'.
What perhaps makes the post more likely to be a mistake, is that Expansys reportedly listed the 16GB and 32GB white versions as the same mind-boggling price. The e-trailer currently sells the 32GB black unlocked handset for £779.99 and charges £659.99 for the 16GB version.
So basically after that spot no one is any the wiser, but it seems unlikely that Apple would release such an expensive handset, especially when there are rumours the iPhone 5 will be out this summer.
Then again, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said just last month that the white flavour of the iPhone was ‘coming soon' after confirming the problems with the launch was down to the pale parts meddling with the camera's picture quality.
