Google not paranoid about Android success
The fact Liquid uses Google's new Android 1.6 is not insignificant, either. On a recent earnings call, Google CEO, Eric Schmidt declared "Android adoption is about to explode" and said all the necessary conditions were in place to allow for its expansion. There are currently 12 Android phones available, spanning 32 carriers in 26 countries.
Google's strategy appears to be along the lines of keeping Android as a low cost, open source OS which offers full features on mobile phones, in order to boost Google's share in the mobile search market, where it's already gaining a fair bit of traction.
The Internet giant said it had seen a 30 per cent rise in mobile searches in the second quarter of 2009 alone, and hopes to see an even bigger surge by the end of the year.
Analysts have already predicted that over 70 per cent of mobile advertising in the future will be made up of mobile search, so Google's plan makes a lot of sense, and Acer's adoption of Android 1.6 for Liquid seems to be a step in the right direction.
