Conclusion, Final Thoughts and Awards
Now, time to sum up the Sumo Omni, to tell you lot whether it’s worth buying or not.Well, considering a Fatboy will set you back around £70 more than a Sumo Omni at £79, there’s the value for money aspect right there. And for sure, fans of the competition will harp on about quality and the like but I have to say that the Sumo approach with the Omni seems overkill in itself… and I’ve had two excitable kids leaping all over it and it seems to have done it no harm at all.
My only reservation with the Omni is the sheer size of the thing… it works both for and against it. On the one hand it’s bloody enormous, will dominate every room except the Albert Hall and is a bugger to store when not in use. On the other hand, if it were any smaller it wouldn’t offer the near-full body support and sheer loungability of being able to sprawl out across the thing and chill.
So I have to say that for the sheer comfort of being cocooned in an Omni, it outweighs the downside of the thing taking over your living room but here I should add a word of caution. I’m not a big bloke by any stretch of the imagination, in fact, apart from the party keg around my waist instead of a six pack, I’m decidedly average in stature and getting out of the Omni is a problem… You’ll flail around like a beached whale, legs kicking, arms flapping, trying to get a purchase on any solid surface. So although the Omni is super comfortable, it’s like upholstery quicksand… it keeps sucking you back in.
All in all, the Sumo is one of those bits of kit you might buy on impulse, and then thank yourself for your impulsive nature every time you use it. From a gamers' point of view, especially for console sessions in the lounge in front of a nice big HD panel, it provides the kind of comfort you'd normally only find if you happened to be using Pamela Anderson's considerable assets for a pillow.
The trick is getting the balance of air in the bag just right… too little and it's as if the thing is stuffed full of nearly set concrete… too much and you'll be rolling about as if you're on a bouncy castle on a boat in a force 9 gale. But hit that sweet spot, which does take a bit of fiddling, and you're in for an incredibly comfy seat. Best thing is, even with the size I had, you can still sit two full grown adults… and have room to spare, so no embarrassing un-blokey thigh rubbing… unless that's your thing.
For awards, I’ll have to give the Omni a Recommended as I don’t think it’s an essential purchase and you’ve probably already sorted yourself with a favourite gaming spot in your living room… but if you’re still looking for something then this is well worth a look and at just £79 (with the special offers Sumo have on at the moment), it’s remarkably good value.
