Operation Flashpoint: Elite - Xbox
So Operation Flashpoint: Elite is on its way for the Xbox and will launch on October 28th. To celebrate the fact this long awaited multi-player mil-sim has gone gold, The Codemasters have released some more screenies and a bit more background info on the game itself.
With the Cold War conflict between the NATO coalition forces and a renegade Soviet Red army faction initiated players must prepare to join U.S. forces to make their mark in what developers, Bohemia Studios, claim is the most realistic modern warfare simulation on any console.
Operation Flashpoint: Elite transports players to 1985, in the midst of the Cold War, where Gorbachev has just been elected to power. It is up to the player to dictate how the U.S. forces will tackle the Soviet faction. The scope for the gameplay is pretty enormous with two military campaigns plus 15 solo missions over 4 sprawling 100+ km2 battle zones.
Bohemia claim they have adapted and improved from the PC original and Operation Flashpoint: Elite allows players to think, act and move, as troops would in a similar real life operation. For the first time in a military simulator, players will be given the chance to take control and command their soldiers, and more than 40 authentic land, sea and air vehicles, bringing freedom to one's gameplay like never before. With 30 plus authentic weapons, complete with true-to-life models and physics, prepare to experience war on a whole new level.
Additionally, you can take on opponents for real with over 50 missions, including co-op and team-based, over Xbox Live.
By the way, in this press pack was a picture of a couple of World War 1 planes dogfighting... I've left it out as I'm pretty sure the Codies dropped it in there by accident... still, it looked nice though.
UPDATE:
Right, time to eat some humble pie. I've had a call from The Codies and that screenshot of the World War 1 biplanes WAS supposed to be in there, so here it is in all its glory:
It turns out that these are one of the unlockable extras built into the game and the Codies would like it known that they never, ever, ever make mistakes... not ever. Of course, I'm only too happy to set the record straight and rectify my mistake which should make Sam Cordier at the Codemasters very happy. (Even happier now he's got his name up again!)
