The safety message issued by Nintendo yesterday appears to stem from complaints received by gamers experiencing problems with the strap that's attached to the Wii-mote.
The main man himself, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, acknowledged that the strap may not be as good a safety mechanism as they'd originally thought. Nintendo are currently investigating the issue with the strap, which is said to become detached when gamers move the Wii-mote around vigourously. "Some people are getting a lot more excited than we'd expected," Iwata said. "We need to better communicate to people how to deal with Wii as a new form of entertainment."
Meanwhile, Nintendo are on target to smash their sales targets for Wii, which is currently set at 6 million consoles sales before March. Iwata said that Nintendo will wait until Christmas and then decide whether they will raise their sales targets.
Current reports suggest that the initial batch of Wii has sold out in Japan and North America meaning that Nintendo have already sold 1 million consoles. Wii launches in Europe tomorrow and the console has virtually sold out due to the huge demand from pre-orders. A small number of stores will be selling Wii on the day, but unless you start queueing now you'll have to wait for the second batch.
