To be Wii or not to be Wii, that is the question
Only days after Nintendo announced the new name of the ‘Revolution’ to ‘Wii’ rumours are flying around that the Japanese firm haven’t even trademarked the name.
Kotaku spoke with Igor International who believe that the announcement is nothing more than a viral campaign. Nintendo say that they have applied for the trademark but are waiting for it to ‘come through’.
Nintendo apparently took 6 months to decide on the final name, a spokesperson said, Nintendo spokeswoman said that "Wii is a platform for everyone — not just the gamer or the nongamer."
Wii -pronounced "we"- hopes to take on the PS3 and Xbox 360 by providing a better gameplay experience through the innovative controller, some old skool titles, and a number of exclusive games.
This week we learnt that EA will be using the nunchaku control unit to direct the gameplay in their next Madden title. The wand style controller will be used to throw and kick the ball whilst the Nunchaku will control the player’s movement. The Nunchaku has an accelerometer and is therefore able to measure its own motion, and map it onto the T.V set.
