Ubisoft's latest trailer for highly anticipated sequel Far Cry 4 teases the use of the elephants which roam around Kyrat as impactful, deadly, powerful weapons. Far Cry 3 was the "number 1 rated shooter of 2012," and it looks like Ubisoft is trying to push it in surprising new ways to keep up that pedigree.
The new Far Cry 4 trailer is entitled "The Mighty Elephants of Kyrat". The voice over reminds us of the use of elephants in historic battles, most famously by Alexander the Great. These intelligent animals can be used to devastating effect, if they are on your side.
Elephants crave the taste of human blood
The trailer includes some dubious 'fun facts' which may not be familiar to armchair naturalists and historians. Apparently "Elephants crave the taste of human blood" and the popular saying about elephants never forgetting is really a contracted version of "Vengeance - an elephant never forgets".
Beyond these claims there is plenty of in game elephant action shown in the trailer. We get to see Elephants toss humans and vehicles around in their rage, even stomping upon their victims. The voice over informs us that "A charging elephant becomes unstoppable at 20 miles per hour" - this statement is a bit more believable than the blood/vengeance 'facts'… Especially after seeing a jeep turned over in a realistic looking action video.
To get the elephants on your side isn't down to any sort of kindness or animal pleasantries, which wouldn't really fit in with an FPS game. An elephant needs to be brought under control by sneaking up on it with a shotgun. Then you can ride off and squash your enemies.
Far Cry 4 will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 from 18th November.
