Coming to Earth
Four years on from the release of iD Software's Doom 3 comes the announcement that the first person shooter Doom 4 is in the works."Doom is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth," said id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead, presumably speaking from another planet.
There are no details on the title as yet, but it's going to be interesting to see whether the developer will inject something new into the franchise and move away from the run-and gun game-play and the linear and dark levels of previous games in the series.
Considering the DOOM franchise is one of the most recognizable titles in gaming history, we'd guess that the team will probably take the safe bet and stick to the same formulae that has made it so popular.
