Valve Software's Gabe Newell has made his feelings clear regarding Microsoft's decision to make Direct X10 compatible with Windows Vista only, after an online survey from his company revealed that only one in fifty people who use Valve's videogame download service, Steam have the new operating system or a DX10 compatible graphic card. Newell believes that this move by Microsoft has and will continue to affect the whole of the gaming industry.

German website Heise, claims that Newell also complained about the 'increasing lack of input device diversity in PC gaming culture. He would like to see controllers like the Wiimote or the Guitar Hero guitar, but since DirectX support for devices like these had increasingly been reduced over the last few years, developers didn't dare implement these expensive innovations.'

From a consumer perspective, gamers will be forced to invest in Vista if they want to enjoy the full gaming experience of Crytek's first person shooter, Crysis and other DX10 compatible games.

Only one in fifty people who use Steam own a copy of Windows Vista and Gabe Newell isn't a happy man.
I thought it was one in fifty own Vista and a dx10 graphics card?

Either way it's terrible new for Vista and DX10.
I'm starting to think that Microsoft see DirectX for the PC as just a way of bringing Xbox games to windows cheaply and easily, rather than as a feature/product in its own right..
i must admit when i bought vista and my dx10 card (woot! i'm one in 50) i expected more games to be coming in dx10 form it seems a bit off

incidentally if 1 in 50 who use steam have a dx10 card and vista how come every kid you play with seems to be running to 8800 ultras and a core 2 xtreme

 i wonder why that is

i dont know maybe you got lucky so far and have only encountered people with vista and 8800.

but realy and truly it doesnt take a scientist to know that most people dont have vista and/or a dx10 cards
