Liepzig Games Convention set to be event of the year
HEXUS.gaming used to thoroughly enjoy the annual trip over to E3, knocking kids out the way to get our hands on Wii, attending the press conferences and listening to Microsoft and Sony slagging each other off, perving over scantily clad ladies and of course getting to see some the best games of the year in action. However, this year is totally different.
The press have already secured their invites to this year's event and were today produced with the exhibitor list. Last year, our editor Nick Haywood wore out the leather on his shoes walking around the massive arena trying to cram in as many of the 400 exhibitors as possible into his busy schedule. This year however, you'll be able to casually meander round the 32 exhibitor booths and still be back at your hotel in time for lunch.
The 32 exhibitors are as follows:
1C Company, Activision, Akella, Atari, Atlus, Disney Interactive Studios, Capcom, Codemasters, Crave Entertainment, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Konami, LucasArts, Majesco, Microsoft, Midway, Namco Bandai Games, NCsoft, Nintendo, Sega, Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Online Entertainment, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive, THQ, Ubisoft, Vivendi Games, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
While last year saw over 60,000 people attending the biggest event in the video games calendar, this year they'll be only around 4,000 people making the trip.
The alternative version of E3 is an event called 'E for All', which is due to take place in LA in October, although were not sure just how successful it will be or how many publishers plan to attend.
The demise of E3 has opened the doors for the Games Convention in Leipzig to fly the flag for the games industry. This year, the event, which runs from August 23 to August 26, will be the biggest yet. Last year saw 183,000 visitors pass through the doors, but with more events, booths and games planned this year, Liepzig is set to be a huge date in the video games calendar.
