As Doug Lowenstein left his role as the Entertainment Software Association President he delivered a hard-hiting speech directed towards the whole of the gaming industry. At the DICE summit, held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort, he said:

"I'm sick and tired of people in this industry sitting on their hands and waiting for others to do the hard work. What is the problem? You cannot expect this industry to grow and prosper if you are not willing to put the time and effort into it."

After a poor show of hands in the audience, after Lowenstein had asked how many people had voted in the Video Game Voters Network (a newly formed lobbying organization designed to defend the rights of the video gaming industry and the video gaming consumer. ), he said, "I gotta tell you, that's pathetic. "You have to go on a website, click a few keystrokes, and you can send letters to Senators and Congressmen. And 90 percent of the people in this room who have a stake in the future of this industry haven't bothered to take the time to do that. And it makes me sick."

Lowenstein then turned his attention to the gaming industry press who he feels aren't asking enough questions of the industry, "I think the games press doesn't ask enough of itself, and I hope that it does. It needs a higher level of maturity. It needs to take itself seriously," he said. "The games industry press has the ability to push this industry to greater heights and greater success."

The Video Game Voters Network, as expressed through their website, opposes efforts to regulate the content of entertainment media, including proposals to criminalize the sale of certain games to minors, or regulate video games differently than movies, music, books, and other media.

Nice - seems that he's passionate and it's a good thing to ask. But why didn't he do that when he was in the job??

Yeah, it's his last parting shot. Nice rant, but a bit pointless now he's not in a position to do anything about it (I don't think so anyway)
