Notorious hactivist group Anonymous claims that 18 members of its group are spearheading a new development to set up a social networking platform where freedom of speech will take precedence over censorship.

Dubbed AnonPlus, the new platform won’t just be for members of the group, who recently shot to fame for supporting WikiLeaks by hacking PayPal and Visa websites, but will be available to all. The move to create such a platform comes after a number of members had their Google+ accounts banned.

“We've all heard the stories of activists being banned from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and governments blocking their people from these sites as well through organised black outs,” reads the blog post by Anonymous.

“This is one social network that will not tolerate being shut down, censored, or oppressed - even in the face of blackout. We the people have had enough...enough of governments and corporations saying what's best for us - what's safe for our minds. The sheep era is over. The interwebz are no longer your prison.”

AnonPlus is currently in the works with no current indication of release date.

Not being funny like but who is going to sign up to that given that they are obtaining and releasing user information from other sites…?
It's a bit early to be making assumptions like it being centralised. The opposite is the more likely model if it's to evade censorship efforts.

Pretty sure that's what facebook, google, apple, microsoft etc etc are doing as well?

Indeed. All of those ‘cloud’ providers are datamining the hell out of its user base.

Yes, but I signed up to Facebook. I didn't sign up to the Anonymous morons hacking PSN and leaving me without an online service for weeks.

They can go to hell.
