Gears of War dev expands

Epic Games, the videogame developers behind Gears of War and the Unreal Tournament series are set to expand their offices in North Carolina by double the size.

North Carolina's News Observer is reporting that Epic has paid $1.57m for further office space, which will allow them to recruit more staff, including games testers.

Last year, Epic settled for renting an office for visiting game's testers, but Vice President Mark Rein believes that the investment will benefit both the company and the end-user in the long run. "The feedback loop is better," said Rein. "We can sit in a room and say, 'Hey, here's a bug I saw. Can you recreate this and tell me what you think is causing it?' They're constantly playing through the game and testing every little level, and it takes a lot of people to test a game properly."

The cash has bought Epic five undeveloped acres at 600 Crossroads Blvd, a site that stands next to the 31,000-square-foot company headquarters.
