Asus Republic of Gamers has announced that its Centurion, a premium true 7.1-channel surround-sound gaming headset, will become available in October. The headset is designed "especially for pro and hardcore gamers," and includes a USB station with dedicated controls, plus the Asus Sonic Studio sound utility. This headset was created as part of the 10th anniversary of the Republic of Gamers. Asus claims it therefore "packs a decade of design and technological expertise into a one-of-a-kind gaming headset".

Inside the headset there are 10 discrete neodymium-magnet drivers which facilitate the 7.1-channel sound experience. Asus has designed the headset so that gamers benefit from precise surround sound, helping wearers pinpoint the location of enemies or opponents, for example. The Asus Sonic Studio utility helps users get the most from the Centurion headset by offering audio features such as EQ, level balancing, sound positional overlays, and many more.

For comfort, the Asus ROG Centurion is provided with interchangeable protein-leather and memory-foam ear cups. Extended use shouldn't cause any discomfort, says Asus. The headset is also adjustable, comes with a braided fibre cable (headset cable 1.5m + USB cable 1.5m = 3m max), and buyers receive an exclusive Republic of Gamers headset stand.

The Centurion's microphone is fully flexible and retractable. Asus says users will enjoy crystal-clear and low noise communications. Cleverly, the USB Audio Station has an additional built-in microphone that actively detects and counters more than 90 percent of environmental noise (noise cancellation). Inside the USB Audio Station is a 'Hi-Fi-grade' ESS9601 HI-FI Headphone amplifier.

Expect to be able to purchase an Asus Republic of Gamers Centurion 7.1 headset from major UK retailers from October. The RRP is £209.99.

I'm confused.. but excited

Is it HDMI input for audio and USB powered for the amp?

What are the mini jack dongles for? Are they to take a discrete soundcard's output? If so does it come with loads of double ended mini jack cables?
