Razer has launched what it calls "the most customizable controller for Xbox One and PC". The new Razer Wolverine Ultimate does indeed offer a wide range of customisation options with the D-Pad and the thumbsticks being interchangeable, as well as offering a complement of six remappable triggers and buttons. Reconfiguring the controller is completed via Razer Synapse on PC or Xbox, and the RGB LED cherry on the cake is the inclusion of Razer Chroma 16.8 million colour lighting effects.

"We've taken our time with the development of the Razer Wolverine Ultimate to really get it right," said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. "Thanks to endless design iterations and pro-gamer feedback, we're proud to be finally releasing a new contender for the crown."

Its customisable nature means that this controller can "adapt itself to any gamer," reckons Razer. But it's not too radical, changing the D-pad buttons or thumbstick height/profiles to suit can only impact the carefully designed controller's "optimized ergonomics" in a good way. D-pad choices are between a quad-segmented design and a tilting single disc design. For thumbsticks, Razer looks to have included designs of different heights and degrees of top curvature.

Beyond the standard ABXY button array and the other front function buttons Razer has included a "slew of extra buttons for advanced gaming - 2 remappable Multi-Function bumpers, 4 Multi-Function triggers and a Quick Control Panel". Functions assigned to these buttons can be remapped on the fly in Razer Synapse on PC of Xbox One.

As mentioned in the intro, the new games controller from Razer includes Chroma lighting, so it can be part of a synchronised setup. Apparently it’s the first Chroma device for Xbox. The RGB lighting is fairly limited however, in that it is limited to one zone, a strip at the top of the controller surrounding the Xbox logo.

In an email to HEXUS, Razer said that the Razer Wolverine Ultimate controller will become available in September via Razerzone.com. Global rollout will occur during Q4, 2017. The recommended pricing is US $159.99 / EU €179.99. Full controller specs are reproduced below.

“Oh a Razer pad, I bet it's £100 or something stupid like that”

…Once again, I underestimate Razer…Christ on a bike.
The part at the bottom of the controller relating to the voice chat completely ruins it for me.

my thoughts exactly!

£150 for a game pad, no chance!
I was one of the people that bought an xbox one elite controller for my PC, whilst expensive, you really can feel the difference in quality and comfort. I would never go back to a standard one now, I recently bought the new uncharted game for my ps4 and picking up a different pad for the first time in about a year felt horrific!

I'm still using 3rd party drivers with my Dualshock 3, you can get them for under £10 now ;-)
