LONDON, 24th January 2003 - XboxÔ today announced that it has reached an agreement with Tecmo to distribute the upcoming Xbox game ‘Project Zero’ in Europe.
Project Zero, the survival horror hit from Tecmo, will be distributed by Microsoft Game Studios in the second quarter of 2003 and has been enhanced for its Xbox debut. The psycho thriller hit that has captivated players around the world boasts a variety of new terrifying features in the updated Xbox version. These include enhanced graphics, terrifyingly real new ghosts, unlockable new costumes for Miku, and an alternative ending that promises to reveal new answers to some of the mysteries surrounding the Himuro mansion.
“We're very excited about this new agreement with Tecmo,” said Michel Cassius, Director of Xbox Platform, EMEA. “Project Zero is a great-looking and great-playing Xbox title from one of the industry’s most renowned developers and we’re pleased to be bringing it to Xbox gamers in Europe. It joins other hit Tecmo games distributed by Microsoft Game Studios like Dead or Alive 3 and the upcoming (and highly anticipated) Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. Tecmo has been a great partner for us and this agreement is a natural step in the continual strengthening of our relationship."
“We are very pleased to partner with Xbox for the release of Project Zero for Xbox in the first quarter of this year,” said Isamu Fukada, general manager of International Sales, Tecmo. “We received a lot of great feedback from fans, which we were able to utilise in this new version of Project Zero. With all of the new features we have added, Xbox fans can now enjoy an even scarier world in Project Zero. We are confident Microsoft Game Studios will do justice to this great title, providing excellent distribution and marketing support. We look forward to the success of Project Zero on Xbox and the continuation of our excellent relationship with Microsoft.”
Project Zero
Project Zero has seen escalating buzz since the moment of its introduction into the survival-horror genre last year. With its terrifying story line and unique battle mechanics many gaming editors have referred to it as one of the scariest games of all time.
Project Zero revolves around the story of Miku, a young girl with an uncanny sixth sense, who embarks on a journey to find her brother, Mafuyu, after he disappears within the haunted walls of the Himuro Mansion. Mafuyu had entered the mysterious mansion after his mentor Junsei Takamine, the famous writer, had gone missing while researching the area for his new book. Miku, equipped with her mother’s antique camera and strong intuition, enters the mansion in search of her brother. Before long she realises her mother’s camera is not only a good tool used to see and take pictures of ghosts but a useful weapon to guard herself against the evil spirits that want to trap her within the mansion. As Miku unravels the mystery, she discovers gruesome details about the Himuro mansion. The property and surrounding areas have a dark history involving grisly murders, an evil cult, and restless spirits.
Project Zero for Xbox will leave gamers trembling with a variety of new features that help to make this an even more horrifying experience than the original. Enhanced Dolby Digital 5.1 sound will make the feeling of being attacked a truly terrifying encounter while crystal clear graphics lend gruesome detail to the ghosts within the Himuro Mansion. Project Zero’s eerie environmental sounds, fleeting spirits, and terror-filled story line add up to one of the scariest games on Xbox.
