No matter how much I crave the likes of Logitech's Harmony 1100 and Harmony 900 universal remotes, I've always maintained that I can't justify spending huge amounts of money on what's ultimately still a remote control.
If you feel the same way, Logitech may slowly-but-surely be convincing you otherwise with the introduction of cheaper, more affordable alternatives further down its Harmony range. Back in September we saw the introduction of the sub-£100 Harmony 700, and today Logitech is following up with the launch of the £69.99 Harmony 650 and the £49.99 Harmony 600.
Logitech's Harmony 650, pictured above, carries a form factor identical to the Harmony 700 but loses a few features - the remote can now control only five designated devices (as opposed to six on the Harmony 700), and it isn't rechargeable.
Elsewhere, however, it's very much a Harmony remote and offers a colour screen with icon-based navigation, and support for "one-click activity buttons" - allowing you to program macros for your multiple devices using Logitech's online setup.
The Logitech Harmony 600, pictured below, is almost identical but swaps out the colour screen for a black-and-white, text-based backlit display.
It isn't as pretty, but the £49.99 price tag might just win you over. Logitech is taking pre-orders now, and expects both new Harmony remotes to ship in the U.S. and Europe later this month.
