DPF-V900, DPF-V700 and DPF-D70 launching in March
Just about every manufacturer wants to cash in on the lucrative digital photo frame market right now, but when a renowned display manufacturer such as Sony announces its first ever digital photo frames, you tend to take notice.
As part of its new S-Frame brand of LCD digital photo frames, Sony will launch three models in March, the DPF-V900, DPF-V700 and DPF-D70, priced at $250, $190 and $140, respectively.
Each frame will feature a WVGA resolution of 800x480 pixels and a slightly peculiar 15:9 aspect ratio. They'll all carry an image processor capable of scaling images of up to 48 megapixels, handy if you have one of Sony's own super-advanced digital cameras.
The two higher end models of the three, the 7" DPF-V700 and 9" DPF-V900, provide 512MB of internal storage and are Bluetooth-enabled, allowing users to wirelessly import images from a Bluetooth device. Don't confuse Bluetooth-enabled with Bluetooth-built-in however, you're still need a Bluetooth adaptor (sold separately) to use the wireless functionality. Both frames also feature an HDMI port, useful for showing your images on a bigger HD screen, something I don't recall seeing on any other digital photo frame.
The lower end 7" DPF-D70 has 256MB of internal memory but misses out on Bluetooth and HDMI. All three frames feature the usual photo frame options such as slide shows, calendar and clock views as well as an auto power on/off option.
Sony's S-Frame series certainly looks the part, the black frames look sleek and if Sony's LCD TVs are anything to go by, these LCD photo frames should pack a picture that ranks up among the best that photo frames have to offer.
