We thought Sky's updated 1TB HD receiver looked good when it was unveiled late last month, but it turns out it's even better than we thought.

Although advertised as 1TB Sky+HD set-top box, the unit actually contains a larger 1.5TB hard drive within its sleek black exterior.

Sky today confirmed the presence of the larger-than-expected drive, adding that consumers will only actually see the publicised 1TB of storage, with the remaining 500GB of capacity reserved for its on demand service, Sky Anytime.

The "1TB" Sky+HD box is priced at £249, with installation costs set at £30 for new customers and £60 for existing customers.

Meanwhile, Sky's previous HD box - featuring either a 300GB or 500GB hard drive depending on model - is now the standard Sky receiver and available free of charge to new customers signing up to Sky's HD package .

Repartition, anyone?
Installation costs ? Surely you can put the box in yourself.

Not possible as I understand it - I looked into retrofitting my Sky Box with a 1TB drive and it was widely understood that you had to sacrifice a massive amount of space for Anytime whether you used it or not… and there was no known hack to solve that problem. I think it might even have been a 50/50 split.
At least they are being honest with the advertised size.
Sky+ is a 50/50 split I think. What a waste though, turned anytime off a long time ago.

Records shows your subscription might not even cover & means your box doesn't go into ‘proper’ standby overnight as thats when it downloads (we turn ours off at the wall anyway)

Totally useless feature in my opinion & wish they give me some extra space when turning it off!
