Good news for the handful of HEXUS.community members who subscribe to Sky's HD service; the broadcaster has announced plans to launch seven new HD channels.
Following the recent introduction of EuroSport HD, Sky's high-definition channel count will now rise to 26.
Six of the seven new channels will be HD versions of the current sci-fi/horror, action/thriller, drama, modern greats, and family and comedy movie channels. Sky Movies, then, will be given a huge HD boost. The new channels will air movies such as Atonement, The Sound of Music, 300, The Bourne Ultimatum and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 in HD glory.
The seventh channel, titled Sky Real Lives, will air shows such as Lorraine Kelly’s DNA stories, The Real A&E and Toy Boys.
BSkyB states that it expects its HD service to continue to grow rapidly, citing consumer awareness and purchasing of HD-ready TVs as primary reasons. The seven new channels will arrive in September, and the broadcaster states that it will add even more HD channels before the end of the year.
