New HD channels to launch in March and April

BSkyB has announced that during March and April, the number of HD channels available to customers of its Sky HD service will increase from 14 to 17.

The three new channels; Sky Sports HD 3, Sky Movies Premiere HD and FX HD will provide Sky customers over 6,500 hours of HD programming each month.

Sky Sports HD 3 will air regular sports coverage and provide viewers a chance to see World Wrestling Entertainment in high definition. Who would actually want to see WWE in HD is anybody's guess.

Sky Movies Premiere HD, a replica of Sky Movies Premiere, will join existing HD movie channels Sky Movies Screen 1 HD and Screen 2 HD.

Completing the new trio, FX HD will air programmes between 7pm and 2am daily.

A BSkyB spokesperson said: "The launch of Sky Sports HD 3 will mean Sky will be the first and only broadcaster globally to offer live high-definition coverage of European Tour golf. FX HD will bring new series of critically-acclaimed dramas to the UK for the first time. Sky Movies Premiere HD will ensure the biggest and best from Hollywood and beyond are available in HD. Upcoming premieres include Blood Diamond, Flags Of Our Fathers, Fracture, Babel and Ghost Rider. And the channel will launch with a special event; the first opportunity anywhere in the UK to watch Titanic in HD."

Though we welcome the additional channels to Sky's HD service, the channels it must be said aren't the most appealing.

What we really need now is for Sky to drop the additional Ā£10 per month subscription charge for HD customers.

Which they will do (as they did for Sky+) after they've milked it for a couple of years.
early adaptors get screwed, fact of life.

what really grinds my gears is how bad the integration of the HD service is.

When watching 106, thats sky one…. i don't want to have to think, hurm its 165 in the living room. There should be at worst a button that toggles between SD and HD mode. The channel numbers completely hidden.

But noooo.
THe problem is that its 2 separate feeds for HD and SD so at the moment its going to be a bit annoying for ppl.

As more ppl come in though hopefully sky on hd will have all programs in hd so you wont have to worry about swapping channesl
More people won't come in whilst the box costs 300-odd and an additional tenner a month on your monthly sub, eeek. :surprised:

As dangel says though, the monthly extra is bound to be dropped somewhere down the line. Similar to Sky+. Once they drop the monthly, I might even consider it myself.
And when they do they'll probably be a lot more on it to justify getting it!

Sky cost me a fortune over many years, i've gorn freeview now and tbh i'm happy enough until something else is both content-ter-ly and financial-ly more attractive.
