Coen Brothers clean up at the Oscars

The 80th Academy Award ceremony, more commonly known as the Oscars, took place on Sunday night and Coen Brothers' crime-thriller, No Country for Old Men, came away with the most awards.

No Country for Old Men

The Coen Brothers, winners of an Oscar for 1996's Fargo, watched on as their No Country for Old Men triumphed at the ceremony by collecting four awards including Film of the Year, Best Director (Joel and Ethan Coen), Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Joel and Ethan Coen).

It proved to be a night for European actors too, as every acting award was given to a European star. England's Daniel Day-Lewis took away the prize for Best Actor for his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood. Best Actress, France's Marion Cotillard, was awarded for her portrayal of singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.

The Bourne Ultimatum scooped a surprising three awards, albeit technical, for achievements in Film Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

Other notable winners include Juno's Original Screenplay, written by Diablo Cody and Best Animated Feature, Ratatouille.

The surprise award of the ceremony has to be that of Achievement in Visual Effects. Somehow, the award was given to The Golden Compass instead of Michael Bay's Transformers. Put that one down as one of many puzzling Oscar awards.

w00t!! Glen Hansard won for his song in Once…
I'm glad Ratatouille won the best animated film. It's one of my favourite films from 2007.
I thought Transformers had better visual effects than The Golden Compass

I've seen that film, its pretty good :D
Good to see that he's getting some recognition for it as well!
Once did deserve it, but Enchanted must feel gutted after having three nominations for the same award! :surprised:

I'll never know how Golden Compass won the award for best visual effects, it looks below average in my opinion.
