The iPhone Dev-Team has today announced an early Christmas present for all those who don't fancy a costly O2 contract.
Some 158 days after Apple announced its iPhone 3G, the Team has finally managed to unlock the device, allowing it to be used on any network. The hack, previously known as "yellowsn0w", requires a jail-broken iPhone 3G that utilises baseband 2.11.07 or earlier.
Despite making the announcement today, the Team isn't yet ready to make the tool available to the public - that'll happen on New Year's Eve, giving it enough time to create a user-friendly application that'll simply the unlocking procedure.
Expect an official re-locking iPhone 3G firmware update from Apple on New Year's Day or shortly after.
