Razer has announced a new USB 3.0 connected video capture card. The Razer Ripsaw facilitates full 1080p game capture at 60 frames per second and "ultra low latency" usage from PCs and games consoles. Aimed squarely at gamers, and particularly games broadcasters, users can capture real-time game footage, adding their own music and commentary to the action.
Min-Liang Tan, Razer CEO and co-founder, said of the new release; "We're excited to design a game capture card that meets the exacting needs of broadcasters and to also give newcomers a perfect tool to help them possibly become the next Syndicate or Pewdiepie."
The Razer Ripsaw has both HDMI and component input (via adaptor) for video and HDMI / Analogue RCA L/R plus a 3.5mm mic and 3.5mm aux audio input. Output is available from the device directly via an HDMI out. For capture the maximum quality supported is uncompressed 1080p60 but you can opt for lower settings if you wish.
This external capture card peripheral measures 130 x 86 x 17mm, weighs just 183g, and carries the signature Razer design, looking like a Razer designed TV set top box. Cables are supplied for most likely tasks, such as a USB 3.0 cable, HDMI, Component AV, Component AV Multi, and a 3.5mm audio cable. Razer recommends its own Seiren digital microphone as a good companion audio capture device.
Razer boasts wide compatibility for the Ripsaw; Windows PC are of course compatible, as is the Razer Forge TV, Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, Nintendo Wii U, and past-generation devices such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
PC owners will need at least 4GB of RAM plus an Intel Core i5-4440 3.10 GHz or above and Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or above for desktop streaming and capture. PC Laptop spec requirements include an Intel Core i7-4810MQ or above plus an Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M or above. Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) and XSplit software are said to be compatible, straight out of the box.
The Razer Ripsaw is available direct priced at US179/EUR179.
