Google TV launched with a bang in September with partners Sony and Logitech both bringing out devices that took advantage of the new search-centric platform. And while its reception has reportedly been a little frosty - especially by several major TV networks -  the search-giant is ploughing on, and even released a major update this week that fixed a number of outstanding issues.

However, the service is currently only available in the US and, according to The Inquirer, it's looking like it might stay that way for some time. When the site questioned reps from Google and Logitech as to when Google TV products might arrive in the UK, they responded that there was 'no information whatsoever'. Sony, on the other hand, refused to comment on the prospect.

The service was expected to launch either this month or sometime in January, though this window is looking increasingly unlikely as we storm towards the new year. It's possible that Google will announce international availability at CES, but a UK launch at an event in Las Vegas would seem like a bit of an odd choice.

Obviously there's a certain amount of localisation that has to be done for the UK and European markets. However, given the tepid welcome that it received, we wouldn't be surprised if the service was restricted to North America for the time being, giving developers time to add some much needed polish to the software.
