Microsoft has confirmed that it will introduce a higher-capacity model of the Zune HD portable media player introduced in September 2009.
The new 64GB model will retain the form factor of existing devices but offers double the capacity, allowing it to store up to 16,000 songs or 20 hours of high-definition video.
Available from April 12th, the 64GB Zune HD will be priced at $349.99, with the previous 32GB and 16GB models dropping in price to $269.99 and $199.99, respectively.
As with all previous models, the 64GB addition will be available in a choice of colours and designs through Microsoft's customisation portal, Zune Originals.
In related news, Microsoft is also expected to make available a new Zune HD firmware update. Version 4.5, expected to become available in the coming weeks, will introduce support for a couple of new features - including SmartDJ and Marketplace access via the optional Zune HD AV dock.
The Zune HD is currently only available to US consumers.
