If you've been holding out on picking up a new Sony BRAVIA TV in the hope of built-in freesat support, you'll be happy to hear that the company's first duo of freesat-ready displays have been unveiled at Berlin's IFA exhibition.
Sony's BRAVIA W5810 (pictured above) will be available in 32in, 37in, 40in, 46in and 52in models, whilst the top-end BRAVIA Z5800 (pictured below) will be available in 40in, 46in and 52in sizes. Both sport an integrated DVB-S2 tuner, allowing for access to over 140 freesat channels - including BBC HD and ITV HD - without the need for an additional set-top box. Users will of course require a satellite dish for freesat broadcasters, but both sets are equipped with a digital tuner for your standard-def freeview broadcasts, too.
The displays each offer a full-HD 1,920x1,080 resolution along with Sony's exclusive BRAVIA ENGINE 3 Motionflow technology - with the W5810 and Z5800 models touting refresh rates of 100Hz and 200Hz, respectively.
Sony's claiming a Dynamic Contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and eco-friendly consumers will be happy to hear that Sony's new screens are equipped with an 'Idle TV' mode that's said to consume 25-30 per cent less energy than previous comparable models.
No word on pricing or availability yet, but we'd expect to to see the new sets in store in time for Christmas.
