PRESS RELEASE

Consumer confidence returns to Huawei as Mate 20 X 5G returns to UK operators’ 5G handset line up

London 26th July 2019 - Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) today announced a record-breaking quarter for flagship device sales with the P30 series hitting 10 million units shipped, demonstrating continued confidence from consumers globally. This comes as a number of UK operators confirm that the Mate 20 X (5G) will be on sale as part of their 5G ready handset range in the coming weeks.

Smartphone Sales Milestones

Huawei's official data shows that as of 30th May, smartphone shipments reached 100 million for the year, earlier than that of 2018 when Huawei reached the same volume. The sales volume of P30 series hit 10 million 85 days after its launch. The time it took to reach 10 million unit sales is 62 days less than that for P20 series.

Thanks to Huawei’s continuous innovation, P30 Series smartphones offer outstanding user experience with SuperSensing Leica Quad Camera, 10x Hybrid Zoom, Breathing Crystal, Amber Sunrise and other beautiful colors globally. Huawei's years of research and development have established strong technical strengths and partnerships in both the software and hardware supply chains, enabling Huawei to become the pioneer of many new technologies in the smartphone industry.

Mate 20 X (5G)

As the UK begins to experience the full potential of the 5G era, the Mate 20 X (5G) powered by the Kirin 980 and the world’s first 7nm 5G multi-mode chipset Balong 5000, introduces consumers to 5G with a premium experience comprising high-speed connectivity, flagship performance, large display, reliable battery life and more. As a next-generation multi-mode chipset, Balong 5000 is compatible with multiple generations of network technologies, from 2G through to 5G. Switching occurs at a low latency and power consumption, greatly improving the user experience in all use cases. Flexibly supporting both SA and NSA 5G networking modes, the HUAWEI Mate 20 X (5G) is compatible with 5G networks at any stage of deployment around the world, adding another layer of convenience for frequent travelers[1].

Huawei remain confident and excited about the future, and last week launched the ‘Huawei True Stories’ campaign that highlights how an open and collaborative approach to technology can make the world a better place. The campaign includes the release of a new emotive film which showcases six of Huawei’s projects from around the world, alongside a story that encourages the world to embrace forward-thinking technology to bring new possibilities to people every day. The campaign is also supported by a new online portal where consumers can discover more details about the ‘True Stories’ projects undertaken by Huawei in recent years in more detail.

Anson Zhang, Managing Director of Huawei Consumer Business Group UK, said “We will always put our consumers first, regardless of the challenges we face and this announcement demonstrates the continued confidence in Huawei from customers and partners. We also have a responsibility to make it clear to consumers that nothing has changed and we are confident about the future, and will always ensure our consumers enjoy the best possible experience on their Huawei devices. We are grateful to our millions of loyal consumers in the UK – and we will soon welcome millions more.”
