Vevo - Personalising music video streaming with social network connections and smart onboarding

At Vevo we believe you should enjoy music video streaming that’s personalised. In the last few months, we launched new apps for iOS, Android and the new Apple TV. We had you select your favourite artists to create your Spotlight feed – a personalised and curated feed of playlists and video recommendations. Today we’re introducing new features so that audiences of all genres can have that personalised experience as soon as you start using the app. 

First, we redesigned onboarding and made it smart with genre selections and machine learning, driven by an artist graph we created using playlist data. Here’s how it works:

  1. Select your favourite genres. This will generate an initial list of recommended artists that are already tailored to your preferences. 
  2. Select your favourite artists. The app then learns as you go, so as you tap to select your favourite artists, your choices determine the next set of recommendations in real time. 

We also added social network connections so that you can import and automatically add the artists you follow on Spotify, Twitter and YouTube to your favourites, resulting in a smarter feed, faster.

These new personalisation features are now available on Android and will launch on iOS soon.
