PictureBox will premiere the HD version of Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh’s Che on UK television when it airs the two part Che Guevara biopic, exclusively on Virgin Media. Part One, The Argentine, will launch on February 5th, and Part Two, Guerrilla will follow a month later on March 5th. The films will each be available for a month on Virgin Media’s TV on demand service, meaning that customers will be able to watch them whenever they want during this time.
Che stars Benicio del Toro as the eponymous revolutionary in a stunning performance that earned him the Best Actor Award at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. Part One focuses on the build-up to the Cuban revolution from the perspective of its leaders, including the young physician Guevara, and Fidel Castro. Part Two chronicles Guevara’s failed attempt to develop and implement revolution in Bolivia, leading to his execution in 1967.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media said “With over 500 films on our TV on demand service, Virgin Media gives customers the flexibility to watch the broadest range of films whenever they choose. The addition of Che to our line-up demonstrates our commitment to bringing our customers the best films in crystal clear HD.”
Che will be available on the PictureBox service, which is available to Virgin Media’s 3.7 million TV subscribers for £5 per month and provides a broad selection of recent and library feature films. Subscribers are able to view films whenever they like from a selection of 28 films at any given time, with seven new titles added to the line-up each Friday. The film will be available in standard definition, as well as in HD for customers with a V+ box.
