29th May 2007 - London, England – Philips is strengthening its position as market-leader for portable DVD players with the launch of five new high-performance models that maximize movie enjoyment on the move. The range includes three standalone players and two with integrated docks to additionally offer playback of video, music and photos from an Apple iPod®.

The three widescreen portable DVD players are the 7-inch (18cm) PET730, 8.5-inch (21cm) PET830 and 10.2-inch (26cm) PET1030, which combine stunning contemporary designs with Philips’ performance guarantee.
The trio benefit from number of unique and useful features. All are supplied with the Smart Car Mount - a full in-car mounting kit, providing the perfect way to enjoy movies during long journeys on the road. The pack includes a mounting bracket, which fixes to the back of a car seat and securely fastens the player for safe, simple and comfortable in-car movie enjoyment. A cigarette adaptor ensures the entertainment flows throughout the journey, no matter how long.
To provide a more streamlined and lighter design, the power supply is also now integrated into the main unit (opposed to using an external bolt-on power supply), providing greater portability.
For added convenience, the players also feature two headphone 3.5mm jack inputs allowing two people to simultaneously enjoy movies, while music and photos from other devices or the PC can enjoyed through the player via a fast USB connection.
All are equipped with AV in and out (composite video), which allows the Philips portable DVD player to receive video from an external source – such as a DVD player – and also be connected to a TV and used as a main DVD player. Furthermore with coaxial digital audio output, movies can be enjoyed in true Dolby® Digital 5.1 surround sound when connected to multi-channel AV amplifier or home cinema system. Finally, to ensure simple operation of all functions, all are supplied with a slim and easy-to-use remote control.
Disc compatibility is extensive and includes DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, (S)VCD, DivX®, MPEG-4 encoded movie discs, CD, MP3/WMA-CD, CD-RW music and JPEG photos with Picture CD.
Resplendent in a sleek gloss-black and silver finish, each player is individually-styled. The compact PET730 is the smallest in the line and comes in a conventional laptop-style design, offering extensive manual control and delivering up to three hours continuous playback after each full charge.
The stunning PET830 is afforded a an ergonomically-designed, tablet-style form and features a pull-out rear stand for secure mounting on a flat surface. The PET830 ‘tablet’ features a side-mounted, slide-in disc slot while extensive manual controls are available via the buttons on the outer of the chassis and also the multifunctional joystick.
Launched later in the year the PET835 features an identical in specification to the PET830 but then adds an integrated DVB-T digital terrestrial tuner, allowing the user to enjoy free-to-air digital TV services when connected to a reception source. The built-in battery also provides up to three hours mains-free enjoyment after a full charge.
The PET1030 is the largest of the three standalone players and boasts a 180-degree swivel screen, which rotates and folds into a tablet-style for unrivalled viewing flexibility. Ideal for movie-aficionados, the player also features an SD card slot which enables playback of movies, photos and music captured on other SD-enabled devices. Perfect for long journeys, the integrated battery delivers up to five hours wire-free playback.
DCP line unleashes video from other portable devices
The innovative new DCP line of portable DVD players make movie watching more flexible than ever with the 7-inch (18cm) DCP750 and 8.5-inch (21cm) DCP850 delivering top-class DVD viewing as well as offering a versatile docking station, that unleashes videos stored on an iPod into full widescreen glory. Ergonomically-designed, the dock is embedded into the chassis, so an iPod lays flat and flush ensuring simple manual control while the unit is also recharged. When not in use, the dock doubles up as a storage location for the supplied remote control, which conveniently and intuitively operates functions on both player and iPod.
Both new models display pristine images on the swivel 16:9 screens and also feature an SD/MMC card reader enabling playback of MPEG-4 video or photos from other devices.
Both new models also deliver exceptional sonic performance thanks to Dolby Digital sound – enjoyed through either of the twin headphone jacks or built-in stereo speakers – and Philips’ Zero Bright Dot screen guarantee, to ensure the screen arrives in perfect condition without any bright dots.
