London, England - 16 January 2008 - Hauppauge Digital has introduced a card reader module for its range of TV viewing cards, allowing owners to watch subscription broadcast channels on their PCs. The new module, known as a WinTV-CI (Common Interface), accepts any subscription TV CAM (Common Access Module) and valid viewing card to unscramble pay TV on Freeview and satellite for the first time.
Available immediately, the WinTV-CI is priced at £79.99 inc VAT and will decode UK broadcast services, in full-screen digital quality, including Top-UP TV and Setanta Sports, both on Freeview. The WinTV CI module will also decode dozens of satellite services broadcast across Europe.
"There are hundreds of subscription TV channels being broadcast to the UK, some mainstream, others specialist," commented Yehia Oweiss, Hauppauge Digital’s Vice President of Sales EMEA. "With our new product it is now possible to enjoy these broadcasts on a PC, or Laptop."
Use of the Hauppauge WinTV CI is dependant upon obtaining an appropriate CAM for the broadcaster. The most common is the MediaGuard CAM, which is used for Setanta and Top-up TV, for example, and by many of the European broadcasters. Currently there is no compatible CAM available for BSkyB’s Sky TV services. Compatble CAMs include AlphaCrypt, AstonCrypt, Conax, CryptoWorks, Dragon Irdeto, Mediaguard and Viaccess.
