Social operator
With social networking expected to be one of the main activities people indulge in on the next generation of mobile Internet devices, mobile operator Orange has moved to position itself in the middle of it.
Today, Orange announced the launch of Social Life, calling it "the one-stop-shop for social networking on the mobile. It offers Orange customers a single account for posting updates, images, etc on all of Facebook, MySpace and Bebo, with more to follow.
Orange has also belatedly joined the ‘widget' party by launching the Widget Player. This is a customisable interface that allows instant access to applications and information like search, news and Wikipedia. It's currently only available on the Nokia 6303, but other devices are expected to be added later this year.
"With Social Life and Widget Player we're making it simple for customers to manage their favourite content, applications and social networks at the touch of a button," said Mark Watts-Jones, head of product management for Orange UK.
