No fix no fee
Mobile phone operator has decided that, seeing as it's in the broadband, laptop and consumer electronics business these days, it might as well offer a tech support service too.
Logically enough, it's called O2 Tech Support and is a phone-based service that comes in monthly subscription and pay-as you go flavours, just as you'd expect from a mobile phone company.
O2 will find itself in competition with established tech-support brands like Tech Guys and Geek Squad, as well as the hundreds of independent retailers and service providers in the UK.
"All our broadband customers will continue to get free advice for everything that relates to their O2 service, such as their router, modem or our network," said Jonathan Earle, head of pay monthly at O2.
"Consumers want a one stop shop where they can buy a product, get support, advice and a fix if things go wrong. That is what O2 Tech Support will provide. In addition as a guarantee if we can't fix it we won't charge the customer."
The structure of the tariffs is shown below. O2 says the service is already available via its website, but it's not immediately obvious where.
