The convergence of the PC and telco worlds was nowhere more apparent than at the MobileFocus Global showcase at MWC 2010, where HP, Intel and Dell were all showing off their latest mobile Internet devices.
HP was demonstrating the Compaq Airlife 100 - a 10 inch mini-notebook featuring a Snapdragon chip, special software to enable seamless automatic transition between Wi-Fi and 3G, and running the Android OS. As you can see from the photo below, HP has designed the keyboard to be Anrdoid-specific, with no ‘F' keys and unique Android navigation keys.
Intel has been shouting about Moorestown to anyone that will listen, on which more later, and one of the devices it was demoing was an OpenPeak Tablet 7, which as well as running on Moorestown, comes with a combined telephony dock. Intel also revealed the existence of Moorestown W - a version of the chip that can run full-blown Windows.
Not to be out-done, Dell was showing-off both a mini tablet and a smartphone. The Dell Mini 3 is running Android 2.1, uses a Marvell processor and will be coming to Europe in Q2.
The Dell Mini 5 is an Android 1.6, five inch tablet, running the Snapdragon chip. It is meant primarily as a web surfing device, although it does have two cameras to enable video calls. All we could get is that it will be available this year.
