A little more help
Supermarket giant Tesco has announced a new five year deal with Cable & Wireless to be its wholesale broadband network provider.
This means Tesco will now be able to offer cut-price, own-branded broadband and home phone bundles. Surely it will be just a matter of time before it announces a similar move with a mobile provider and start offering triple-play bundles.
Tesco is now going toe-to-toe directly with other broadband bundle providers such as Talk Talk and Virgin Media. The increased competition could lead to cheaper prices for us punters, but the margins in broadband and home telephony services are already pretty tight.
Lance Batchelor, CEO of Tesco Telecoms and Tesco Mobile said: "We're delighted to be partnering with Cable & Wireless for our broadband and home phone services. We share a commitment to providing excellent customer service and the new network capabilities will allow Tesco Broadband to offer enhanced services for our customers across the UK."
Jim Marsh, CEO of Cable & Wireless Worldwide said pretty much the same, but managed to get "landmark", "focused" and "resonates" into his quote. However, we think "leverage" and "synergy" at the very least should be considered essential in these kinds of quotes and we'll be hoping to see this remedied in future.
