Every little helps
UK supermarket Tesco has been piloting an in-store printing solutions system from system builder HP for a few months and has apparently decided it was a success, because it's rolling it out across a number of its Tesco Extra stores.
The solution in question is called HP Photo Center 4.0. It combines HP's Microlab, Minilab and Photosmart Studio systems and as well as offering in-store photo printing, also enables punters to order things like birthday cards, calendars and so on based on their own photos.
HP reckons the retail publishing market will grow by $36 billion in the next five years, although this figure includes small business printing for some reason.
"HP is helping Tesco seize new growth opportunities and tap into the vast publishing marketplace that exists today," said Rohit de Souza, VP and GM of the retail publishing solutions business at HP. Tesco's spokesperson said pretty much the same.
