UPDATE - 12:30 20 February 2009

Here's Richer Sounds' official statement on the matter. Apparently this is all anyone's getting for the time being.

Richer Sounds is the UK's biggest specialist retailer of hi-fi, home cinema and flat screen TV equipment and aims to deliver both amazing value for money and high levels of customer service to its loyal customers.

It has 48 stores across the UK and is currently celebrating its 30th birthday.  Despite challenging times Richer Sounds' business model has proved resilient to the downturn and its management see the purchase of the EmpireDirect.co.uk website from the administrators KPMG as an opportunity to deliver their low-price business model and buying power to a greater number of customers.

David Robinson, Richer Sounds Chairman, who burnt the midnight oil putting the deal together commented: "We are sure this will be an exciting new chapter for the company and look forward to expanding our commitment to value and customer service through our stores and online".

Richer Sounds is inviting former Empire Direct customers to join its highly popular VIP club and is planning a package of benefits including assisting customers with the manufacturer's warranty on most audio-visual products previously purchased from Empire Direct for all brands that Richer Sounds currently stocks.

As a further gesture to previous Empire customers, Richer Sounds will also be giving a credit by way of Richer Sounds credit vouchers on any un-expired EdXtra membership fees paid. It has also set up a help page to assist former customers where this is possible. In addition, former Empire Direct customers will be entitled to special offers available to Richer Sounds VIP club members.

It'll be interesting to see how much of the business Richer Sounds actually try to absorb… surely there's more to it than what's happened so far
I heard/read it was just the website and not the actually business?
