Yahoo! is going to be showcasing a new logo on its Tumblr homepage every day for the next four weeks. At the end of this '30 days of change' the iconic internet giant will reveal its final choice of logo which will replace the distinctive type based logo that has existed for nearly two decades.
Two down, 28 to go
Writing on the official Yahoo! blog Chief Marketing Officer, Kathy Savitt, said "Over the past year, there’s been a renewed sense of purpose and progress at Yahoo!, and we want everything we do to reflect this spirit of innovation. While the company is rapidly evolving, our logo — the essence of our brand — should too."
Savitt continued to explain the reasoning behind the redesign as marking a kind of renaissance within the company "The new logo will be a modern redesign that’s more reflective of our reimagined design and new experiences." The new logo will better represent a firm which has introduced "beautiful new products" within the last year, such as new weather, email and photo sharing apps and websites.
The exclamation mark will remain in place
For the sake of continuity it seems like Yahoo will keep the purple lettering and the brand's fun and vibrancy will remain in place with the exclamation mark. "After all, some things never go out of style," concluded Savitt.
We've already seen the first two attempts/choices and the video above shows many more flying by. Whether one of these will be Yahoo's final choice, or it will not be among the 30 days of change logos and video, remains to be seen. Eager design-watchers can check the Yahoo daily logo page on 4th Sept at 9pm PT/5th Sept midnight ET to clasp their eyes on the final design choice (set your alarm clock for 5am in the UK) .
