Everyone’s a winner?

A quartet of communities have become the latest winners of BT's race to Infinity competition.

Burley in Wharfedale in Yorkshire, Capel in Surrey, Lindfield in West Sussex and Marton in Warwickshire will join the 6 original winners of the competition to get super-fast broadband.

BT said 6 out of 10 residents in the communities took part in the Race to vote for fibre broadband in their area and the company has rewarded their ‘tremendous' response.

The competition originally aimed to find 5 communities where demand for super-fast broadband was the highest and received over 360,000 votes across the UK. The communities should get their broadband wish by early 2012.

"We decided to extend the list of winners to the ‘top ten' because of the exceptional passion and commitment shown by local campaigners and residents," said a BT spokesman.

"The race has provided invaluable information as we rollout the technology across the country. Potential demand is an important factor influencing our plans and informing our discussions with others," he added.

The 6 original winning exchanges were: Baschurch, Shropshire; Blewbury, Oxfordshire; Caxton, Cambridgeshire; Innerleithen, Scottish Borders; Madingley, Cambridgeshire and Whitchurch, Hampshire.

Yes, super fast broadband is so awesome when they cap your speeds.
Well… I tried. Too many old folk around here who've never used a computer, never mind needing a fast broadband connection
don't get the point of this, why not let it be a case of rolling out to an exchange which would benefit the most users?

that would be fair, bringing the high speed broadband to the largest group of people as quickly as possible.
It was a cheap way to get people to register an interest in the service for when they do roll it out they can send in the salemen. The point is the areas with the most interest win, so its largely similar to what you say, plus they get peoples names.
