The plot thickens
Sadly Google's magical spheres have bounced off into the wilderness and the logo is now chrome-coloured as speculation grows the mysterious interactive doodle was a PR stunt ahead of the company's forthcoming San Francisco event.
The person behind Google's Twitter account seemingly couldn't help dropping a hint yesterday, despite the firm previously saying it wanted to keep the reason for its elaborate interactive doodle a secret.
It said: "Boisterous doodle today. Maybe it's excited about the week ahead..." while a later post read: "Our doodle is dressing up in its brightest colors for something exciting coming very soon..."
There is now wide speculation that the PR stunt could be in preparation for an announcement about Google's search engine itself.
The Register suggested that the company could have revamped its ‘suggest' tool to suggest whole results pages. Meanwhile Search blog Search Round Table, speculated it could be to do with AJAX powered search results stretching to 30 results per page as well as the search tool updating results as a user types.
However, only yesterday commentators were predicting a Google TV or Google Goggles announcement. We hope all will become clear at Google's conference later.
