Wave of new acquisitions
Since this is somewhat along the lines of what Google is hoping to achieve with the currently far-too-confusing-but-still-novel Wave, the latest acquisition seems right on track.
In a blog post, AppJet said its EtherPad service - which comes in both free and paid-for flavours - would "stay online through March 2010 with some restrictions," but users will also be receiving invites to join Google Wave. AppJet says users who have already paid for an EtherPad service won't be getting a refund on it.
The financial terms of the deal are being kept under wraps, but sources at TechCrunch claims the figure was somewhere in the "low eight figures," which seems about right considering the firm had previously managed to secure itself over $700,000 in funding from investors.
This latest buy-out brings Google's shopping spree total to six companies since August of this year, including Teracent, Gizmo5, adMob, On2 and reCaptcha.
Wonder whether Santa has anything else for Google in his bag of buy-outs before the end of the year?
