Momentum mounts
There has been a glut of figures confirming the ascendancy of Android recently, and announcements from two major Android handset-makers have served to emphasise that point.
HTC, which will soon see a star addition to its European communications team, announced its Q3 financials yesterday and they made pretty impressive reading. Revenues were up 130 percent year-on-year to NT$ 27,058 million. This yielded a near doubling of net profit to NT$ 11,098 million.
It's fair to assume a lot of this was down to hit Android smartphones such as the Desire, and the mass availability of the Desire HD and Desire Z should at the very least consolidate these gains.
Elsewhere Reuters reported that Samsung has sold over five million Galaxy S handsets since its launch in June. This is, of course, also an Android phone, and is considered Samsung's best answer to the Apple iPhone to date.
This is also further evidence that Andoid has become the Windows of the mobile space. Intriguingly both HTC and Samsung will be launching Windows Phone 7 phones soon, but market researcher Gartner apparently doesn't fancy WP7's chances much.
