Having recently acquired the entirety of the previously partnered, S-LCD, business from Sony, Samsung has reached new levels in factory numbers and control over its display production and supply. As the firm continues to expand beyond the TV market, with great success in mobiles, printers, notebooks and home appliances, it has decided that its LCD business will be able to move and react faster, as a separately operated but wholly owned subsidiary.
The firm announced today that the spin-off 'Samsung Display Co., Ltd." will be launched on April 1st, with initial capital of £4.1 billion. The focus of the new business is to respond to third-party customer needs in a way that ensures the firm is able to do so both rapidly and competitively, as the market requires. We'd offer you up a quote from Samsung's LCD division vice president, however the translation was rather dire.
