Boxes of tricks

As you may well have read already - most probably on HEXUS - AMD launched a bunch of new CPUs today.

As ever AMD pays very close attention to Intel's pricing in order to be able to claim superior bang-per-buck versus similarly priced Intel chips. The days of AMD competing with Intel at the very top of the market are long gone, so it's all about bang-per-buck these days.

AMD publishes an online price list, but in the past we've found there has been significant delay between the launch of new CPUs and the price list being updated.

Luckily we've developed some good contacts in the AMD channel and can provide you with the table below showing the channel price of the processor-in-a-box versions - all socket AM3.

Better value and cheaper processors are always a good thing but you have to wonder if any of these are particularly relevant given the new architectures coming out next year, although I suppose there's still plenty of people that will NEED to upgrade or change their processor before than, and these might be a good way for them to do it.

Weirdly you posted this before you actually posted anything else about the new processors, oh well.

Yes, my bad, I wrote that without checking when any reviews of the new chips will be out. They are coming soon though…

Good to know, I'll keep watching. :)

Soon as in today, or soon as in this week? You haven't just broken an NDA have you, Scott? ;)
I assume these are all purely speed-bumps. We don't know of any new steppings or anything that would give more room to be overclocked or undervolted do we?
