Virtual launch

Graphics maker NVIDIA has launched its latest generation of "professional GPU solutions", which includes SLI Multi-OS technology designed to optimise NVIDIA professional graphics for virtualised computing environments.

The new Quadros range from the entry level NVS 295 to the top end FX 5800. "The new lineup, with the flagship Quadro FX 5800, sets the stage for the next ten years of innovation," said Dan Vivoli, EVP of marketing at NVIDIA.

Here are the models highlighted in NVIDIA's announcement: FX 5800 (4GB, SLI Multi-OS), FX 4800 (SLI Multi-OS), FX 3800 (single slot, SLI Multi-OS), FX 1800 (mid range), FX 580 (top entry-level), FX 380, NVS 295 (bottom end, can support two 30-inch digital displays at maximum resolutions).

SLI Multi-OS use Parallels Workstation Extreme virtualization software and Intel's VT-d technology, to assign both the host and guest virtual machine their own dedicated GPU.

"By combining the existing Parallels FastLane architecture with NVIDIA's new SLI Multi-OS capability, even the most demanding professionals can now experience the advanced features and performance benefits of NVIDIA's Quadro GPUs in a virtualized environment," said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels.

The new Quadro range is expected to be taken up by most of the major OEMs and will be found in the EMEA channel via board partner PNY.
