Back to business

AMD has launched four new processors for its Business Class commercial computing platform. These appear to be essentially the same as the equivalently named consumer CPUs, but being part of the Business Class initiative, promise greater stability, manageability and energy efficiency.

Here are the new products:

AMD Phenom X4 9750B Quad-Core Processor (2.4GHz/95W)

AMD Phenom X3 8750B Triple-Core Processor (2.4GHz/95W)

AMD Athlon X2 5600B Dual-Core Processor (2.9GHz/65W)

AMD Athlon X2 4850B Dual-Core Processor (2.5GHz/45W)

The press release doesn't detail pricing and availability, but we were able to get the dollar pricing directly from AMD:

X4 9750B - $224

X3 8750B - $180

X2 5600B - $106

X2 4850B - $79

These prices appear to represent a small premium over the analogous consumer products. We understand that this premium is redistributed to business customers via the additional support they get from AMD on matters like image stability.

Here's a reminder of what Business Class is supposed to be about from the press release: "AMD Business Class technology enables OEMs and system builders to develop more affordable and stable PCs that give business more for their money and work harder, longer. Resulting benefits include decreased IT interruption, simplified PC deployment and management, lower IT support and maintenance and reduced total cost of ownership."
