The big Apple

Apple news site Apple Insider has revealed that Macs continued to comfortably outpace the rest of the US PC retail market in February.

Apple sold 60 percent more Macs and generated 67 percent more revenue than in February 2007. This equated to 14 percent of the total volume and a full quarter of the total value of the US computer retail sector. This compares with shares of nine and 15 percent respectively a year ago.

In the Apple insider piece, Pacific Crest Securities analyst Andy Hargreaves commented: ‘MacBook Air sales appear to be additive to total sales, rather than replacing MacBook Pro sales,’ he said. ‘We believe a new set of corporate customers make up a meaningful portion of MacBook Air buyers.’

Forecasters are expecting Apple to shift around 10.8 million iPods in Q1 2008. This is a bit more than in Q1 ’07, but also indicates a general levelling off of sales.

The market also grew…
What Walibe said, no story here that isn't being whipped up by fanboys giving the rest of us a bad name.

Shame to see Hexus posting headlines that frankly belong somewhere like Pocket Lint.
The headline and story concern the share of the US PC retail market owned by Apple Macs.

Macs accounted for: ‘14 percent of the total volume and a full quarter of the total value of the US computer retail sector. This compares with shares of nine and 15 percent respectively a year ago.’

Hence: ‘Apple gains US PC market share’.
The data is based on retail, and EXCLUDES on-line sales. Seeing Apple have pushed heavily in the POS arena in the U.S, is it really a suprise? Either way its overall percent of the market is still questionable when you consider how many PCs Dell ships on-line, especially in the U.S.

I'm not having a digg or anything at you guys, I just think it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt when on-line sales arn't even counted.

Better headline? “Apple gains U.S Retail (although not on-line) market share” :).

And I'm an Apple fanboy, - just a realistic one :).
As Walibe says, no dig at you guys, it's just ‘Macs continued to comfortably outpace the rest of the US PC retail market’ is a ridiculously innacurate statement when compared to sales and results elsewhere.
