There may be trouble ahead

Is the end nigh for AMD and NVIDIA?

Jon Peddie, head of definitive graphics industry analyst Jon Peddie Research, told HEXUS.tv at CeBIT that when Intel launches its discrete graphics offering - Larrabee - in 2009 it will be bad news for NVIDIA and AMD.

'Intel will take market share from NVIDIA, AMD and S3 just because it showed up,' he said. 'If the part is any good then the news [for the incumbent graphics players] gets even worse.'

Well they have their own fabs which should ut the cost.

Does this mean taht Intel are going to take it seriously not and release high end cards or are we talking good all round cards for the mass market?
If this is the mid-high end market we're talking about, then they've a hell of a lot of catching up to do. This is one market you don't just walk into at the moment, no matter who you are. Obviously they dominate the low-end graphics market, but their best graphics are barely even comparable to AMD or NV's worst. And we've not even got to drivers yet…
Couldn't agree more Gav.

When you look at a processor life cycle compared to a GPU life cycle, they have shockingly little in common.
Look how long it took Intel to make a successful successor to the P4…..then look at how many GPU releases we get in the same period.
